Common Mormon Butterfly

In my last post about the Common Rose butterfly, I had mentioned about the Common Mormon, which is very similar to the former. The pictures below show Common Mormon. You can compare the differences in the appearances of the two.
Common Mormon Butterfly (Papilio polytes)

Here, it is a pair of Common Mormons mating. Found them between the bushes nearby to my house on a cloudy day. The one seen in the front is female.

Scientific name is Papilio polytes. As I had said in my previous post, it is also a swallowtail butterfly – that is, black swallowtail. See its body is black in color.It is a very usually seen butterfly in Kerala.

  1. Beautiful capture Abhinav! Yes, I check the previous post and except the red colors there isn't different between the butterflies.
