Red Whiskered Bulbul is one of the two species of bulbuls commonly seen around in my place. The other one being Yellow Browed Bulbul.
The below photo was taken when the bird was sitting on a rose branch, from a distance of about 8 feet.
These birds are very used to humans so we can approach them so close. They even make nests close to human dwellings. These birds are seen widely in the western ghats.
In the photo below, the bird is more distant, about 20 feet apart, cropped a lot that is why it is not so clear as the first photo.
Identification: The upper body including wings and the tail are brownish, head, beak, eyes and legs are black. There is a red whisker and a red vent. the horn like structure on the head makes it an attractive bird.
Species: Pycnonotus josocus
Malayalam name: Irattathalachi
Hope you loved this little bird.
