Black and White Striped Butterfly - Black Swallowtail

When I saw this big butterfly, it was feeding on a Tithonia flower under the bright noon Sun. I am almost sure that it is the Common mime butterfly (Papilio clytia).

See, its colors were slightly faded than other Common mimes. They usually have a pleasant sharp black and white stripes, and some yellow spots under the wings. These marks were present for this one, but were faded. That is why I say I am 'almost' sure that it is a Common mime. May be because it was an 'aged' butterfly!

Even though they have only two colors - black and white, they are easily noticeable and attractive.
There are mainly two types of Common mime butterflies seen here. The other one is less attractive than this one. A picture of it was given on one of my earlier post on Tithonia Flower (the third picture in that post). As in this case, it was also captured when it was sitting on the Tithonia flower, to be more precise, on the same plant itself!! May be they are very much fond of Tithonia than any other flowers :)

These butterflies come under the category of Swallowtails. Belongs to the Papilio genus under Papilionidae family.
Hope you enjoyed this one :)
